I found my first few cubensis today. very few. some were too freaking wet to even pick and the ones we did were pretty wet too.

The gills were not as dark is i thought they'd be. on the small one, they were really light colored. is it normal for cubes that have just spread the cap to have light gills and a white veil? Maybe the spores have yet to fall down from inside to cover the gills? anyway, they all bruised blue, especially the small one, and had the veil. the wet ones are nasty.

^this is just an interesting mushroom from the same field, identification is beyond me.

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.

Yea sometimes I find a few with pretty light gills to its normal. Not really to sure as of why. I found one or two that were sporeless completely.
Second one is a pan. antrillium.

Sure looks like it. Glad your having luck with the cubes. They've gotten up to about middle GA, I'd say two weeks for N-GA and another month before we start hearing good finds from the Carolina's and northern extremities of the range they stretch. That is, if this wonderful weather keeps up..

The white mushroom is Panaeolus antillarum and is not psychoactive.
