Is there a name for this image?

From Tool's Lateralus CD:

Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger album cover (similar, but somewhat different):

I've seen this while meditating sober, as well as under the influence of marijuana or salvia divinorum. I've often wondered whether there is some kind of name attached to this image/symbol. I think it's where the idea of a lotus plays significance in Hinduism/Buddhism, as I guess it's a component in human consciousness in some way.

The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

"sawblade" design for disc, representing the foundation
of our being, prior to physical reality, as emptiness and awareness,

Ahh yes, I think I've read that before. Thanks for pointing it out.

I like Olaf.  It's funny because if you watch the A Perfect Circle video for the cover of John Lennon's Imagine, they parody it somewhat at the end. Ice cream cones, babydolls, and all sorts of weird, funny stuff.

I always thought mandalas were more fractal in nature, but after doing a quick google image search, I see that there are similarities to the "saw blade" design.

I think it's really neat to see certain images in daily life which I have seen during meditation, or other such introspective experiences. It's like taking a really personal experience which normally feels too "private" to acknowledge, and becoming aware that other people have experienced it as well. I don't know if that makes sense.
