fast life and free time
    #4284524 - 06/11/05 07:40 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Ever since my country switched to capitalism in 1991, the trend was of course starting to be: do something, realize your dream, work for yourself etc.

BUT

the popular idealistic man of today is now a man that barely has time for anything. TV commercials are flooded with things like: "since I barely have time to eat in one day, (insert product) Is great for me because now I can...."

I've noticed this fast fast fast trend in world in general.
People want instant things because "time is money" everything has to be now or never, and it must not last for more than 5 minutes because nobody has time for anything more than that.

It seems that Free time is now considered to be wasted time which could have been used for professional progress.

Why is world getting so impatient?

I don't know. I think that whole mentality is crazy. I take my time doing things, and don't give a fuck if it upsets other people. I even drive below the speed limit quite often.

It's the technology, man. Since we can get things done faster, we figure we can do more with the free time. This notion is stretched more and more as people realize the convenience derived from it. It's the idea of, 'if it works, let's see how far we can take it' -- see how many things we can do faster which results in more things we can do and experience. And this makes our attention spans shorter, so that with each new thing we experience, we have less and less patience for it.

Everybody needs to smoke a joint and slow the fuck down.

Maybe it's FEAR! Fear of not getting there. Maybe some people don't know where "there" is and so are frantic and running; but it's just running in circles. Just a guess from the times I am frantic or impatient. :mushroom2:

Why is world getting so impatient?

This observation in the human race today can be attributed directly to the changing environment around all of us; specifically technology.

Technology has changed our fundamental perceptions about how our lives and businesses can and should be conducted. People now expect transactions and interactions to have an immediacy they never had before, both in the ability to send and recieve information, and the ability to access information.
How many of you are frustrated when others say they're going to send you something by regular mail?
"You don't have email or fax? Can you send it FedEx?"
Because people know they can get things faster than ever before, they seem to have lost patience and now expect everything in their lives to have the speed of e-mail.
"You mean my food isn't ready yet? I've been here five minutes!"
This "need for speed" has folks carrying cell phones everywhere, faxing from cars, and e-mailing from the beach on their vacations.

Just the way the world goes, and this can be traced all the way back to the dawn of civilization.. it's all part of the package called "Progression".

its not a negative thing, humans, in wealthy capitalist nations have internalized the core of their civilizations: progress. Its our modern popular religion, progress is the purpose of life, and progress brings happiness and comfort.

And its true! thats why the whole world has switched to capitalism (china and russia) because hard work and improvement brings positive change, in theory.

You can dertermine your own comfort level with efforts applied toward wealth, family, integrity, creativity, and health.

To do this you need a strong faith in your own survival ability and self worth.

There is no telling what will happen due to your efforts, no telling where lightning will strike, and which meritorious person will become wealthy; but those who really do care about wealth over all other things do get wealth over all other things and it can be a filthy proposition.

Mostly luck (chaos) rules, (the mean ones get rich and the lucky ones get rich - also a few ballanced ones but we hear most about the mean ones who are basically criminal and the lottery winners) so the best approach is a middle path tending to matters that arise, and letting the future come as it may (with lots of money or none).

Integrity is the measure we take of ourselves at all times, so if we succumb to excessive money grubbing, over other important personal issues we demean ourselves to that extent.

"it's just running in circles"

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking,
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

HArd work is not the ideal in capitalism, on the cotrary, the idea in capitalism is to make others work for you, do nothing and be rich.
The idea of communism is hard work by everyone for the good of everyone

I wasn't talking about time mismanagement that runs amok in many people..

Strictly speaking about why there appears to be much general "impatience" in many people.

hahahahahahaha. Yes, your reply, somewhat muddily expresses the IDEALS of two economic philosophies called *capitalism* and *communism* but says nothing about the people/cultures/nations which adhere to those philosophies.
