Operational use of casing? How do caseings create better flushes?
    #4284121 - 06/11/05 07:27 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Why, exactly, does casing create better flushes? I know it does...I'm just curious about the mushroom lifecycle mechanics involved that create more/better mushrooms just by casing it. It doesn't get nutrients from the casing layer...so what's the point?

as in, the case layer helps the mycelium stay moist by preventing evaporation?

Shrooms are mostly water. This helps the shrooms more than the myc.

I read when I first came here. Something about the 3 things a casing does and is good for. There's more but here's what I remeber...

1.)Retain/Take moisture out of the air and supply it to the Myc. Network.
2.)Helps repel contams (i dont think so...)
3.) Can't remeber

Mushrooms are 92% water. Casing layers help Make pinsets more even IMO...Getting a cake to pin everywhere...is a bit harder.

But I have seen some badass cakes (namely those by sam12..something).

I would also think that the leaching effect that goes on is helpfull in getting water to your myc. network, along with the proper micro-environment for the pins to be produced in.

"1.to protect the colonized substrate from drying out.
2.to provide a humid microclimate for primordia and development.
3.to provide a water reservoir for maturing mushrooms.
4.to support the growth of fructtiification enhancing microorganisms."
this is a direct quote from TMC. and i couldn't have said it better myself.
