The Mysterious Panaeolus Ggreatoneifolius... [NEW PICS]
    #4283330 - 06/11/05 02:09 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

:mushroom2: The last week or so i have been going up the the local park to play frisbee with my buddies. Upon our friendly game we stubmled across this peculiar shroom. Being a novice tripper and anticipating some hunting eventually, i decided to come to shroomery for some info on these lil guys. after roaming the forums looking for some south florida ID's and such i stumbled across the Panaeolus ggreatoneifolius. this looked nearly identical to the ones we were finding out on the soccer feild. i was excited!! after the past days rainfall, i decided to go pick some to make sure these were active and yummy. the field being only 2 minutes driving distance from my house, was covered with the little cappies. i picked and picked and picked. sometimes i was squatting in one spot for 5 minutes just pivoting around picking them up. sooo many mushies!!!!!! i have come back from the field with a yield far bugger than i imagined. i have 120+ of these bad boys. i am 98% sure they are the ones Ggreatone finds. you are gonna be proud ggreatone.... hopefully.  :mushroom2:

some while they were in the feild

the finest of the pick

what do u guys think?

West Broward County, near Ft. Lauderdale. I havent eaten any of them yet, i had put them out to dry and they got all black and extremly shrivled. are they still okay to eat? they smell really funky. or should i just go get some fresh ones? also, are there any other species that could possible resemble the pan ggreatone, and be potentially harmful? just want to be safe. thx for all the info!           :mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

Check them all out. Take a day off. Take sunscreen, tennis shoes, and plenty of water. A walking stick and widebrim hat is a good idea. Bend the grass back in tall areas, and don't ever linger too long.

might as well linger, everyone will automatically suspect your "huntin' one o' dem' narcotic mushrooms" anyway.

Again, do these shrooms taste like coconut? if so, im pretty sure ive spotted them too.

Maybe in Florida. Most of the N-Georgians are pretty oblivious to my scheming. Florida sucks.. If I ever wanted mad shrooms I'd go to Texas.

Noooooooo..
big misconception that Texas is safe for the pickin'.
Cops are very aware in some places of hunting activity (shroom hunting i mean).
I took a trip to Galveston a week ago and checked out a field there (know that galveston island is like 100ft wide [not really, just giving you an idea of what i mean by "skinny"]).
So i checked this field out ~12:00 Midnight, didnt find SHIT, was being raped (literally RAPED) by mosquitos, and had to dive into a pile of cowshit every time a car went by (theres roads on all sides). After i came out with nothing and very dissapointed, i was walking back to my campsite, when a cop pulled over to grill me. i think he knew what i was up to. i told him i was just "goin for a walk", and sinse i didnt have anything on me (except a 'suspicious' flashlight), he had to let me go.

Crazy story. That all happened in Texas? Dang man, play it smarter.
Shrooms will come when they are supposed to and if you go with a half mind they will smack you back. I'm talking about myself really, so take no offense. I guess the local scene will vary and there is only one way to find out what it is: Investigate... LEGALLY! Get permission, have school Id's and mushroom reports available. never admit to anything active and stay low. Don't speak unless spoken to, and be careful.

this mushroom was found in well fertalized golf course-type grass in SC... it looks like the first picture you have, could it be a Panaeolus Ggreatoneifolius?

no mateoonfire, those are a type of Conocybe, probably poisonous.

the answers to the other questions are no they do not taste like coconuts, they taste kinda like your regular white button mushroom, but with a little added extra zing.

the closest lookalikes to these mushrooms would be the inactive Panaeolus campanulatus which also sometimes pops up in lawns.

they also look alot like Panaeolina foenisecii, but ive never found foenisecii growing in south florida before.

You sure the print is black? Most lawn growing mushrooms of the "Panaeolus" variety drop very dark brown prints, which would mean they are in the Panaeolina genus and are inactive.

NICE! it rained nice yesterday and today, in the afternoon. tomarrow it is out to the feild!! i hope to come up with a yeild just as pretty as last time. definatly will take some more pics. ive decided to wait until i had fresh ones, the previous pick had seemed to go rotton and i suspected them to have lost all potency. so i'm gonna head out and dose some freshies tomarrow! i'll get back to you all!

with my location, i can linger however long i please. its a public park run buy the city. the worst that will happen is the park ranger will come, but he isnt too bright... so no worries!

mateoonfire!! u like the chariot? i saw them last month wiht underoath and fbtmof, sick ass show man. the chariot was okay.

happy shroomin!!

These are more pictures of the harvest i had taken about a week ago. the feild was dry today, but it rained a decnet amount, so i am hoping for tomarrow.

a lot of them fell apart while in the plastic bag i had. they had gotten smushed or not picked properly.

all the Pan. GG's that stayed cap and stem intact.

GG field, tomarrow is another day.
