Myco Bag Pinning/Fruiting problem
    #4281015 - 06/10/05 08:05 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Hello, I was just writing to ask if anyone could maybe give me some suggestions. I am trying to get my bags fruiting. I am using grain based myco bags, the bags are 100% colonised. They stay in the temperatures between 72 and 82 (it flucuates throughout the day). I use flourecent bulbs to light, also I haven't been giving them a solid 12/12 lighting schedule (the light time varies from day to day). There are water droplets inside the bag. I cold shocked them for 12 hours. Now it has been 3 weeks since cold shock. I don't know why they are taking so long to pin. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You'll want to use a casing layer of some sort when trying to fruit straight grains, even if it's only verm. Do you have a casing?

No I don't have a casing. I was under the impression that they would grow in the bag without me opening it until harvest time.

yeah, you gotta get those puppies outta there before they go bad. Technically you could fruit in the bag, but it's not reliable like that.
If you wanna be quick about it, run out and get some verm and surrond them in moist verm (case).
There are many ways you can go about this.
You could probably get by just fime by cutting the top of the bag about two inches above the colonized grain (gotta darken the sides with tinfoil or something) and either throw it in a terrarium you can put together in minutes, or maybe roll the bag back up to make the tent effect again, like I said, lots of choices, do some searching in grow logs and archives.

peace

So your saying that they won't just fruit in the bag. I have to add verm to it? I thought I read a log or two where people have just fruited in the bag without doing anything extra (other than keeping the temps right and such).

You can fruit in the bag. The key is Air Exchange. Make sure they get lots of fanning and they will fruit.

You know fanning is the one thing that I wasn't doing! Man how could I just forget about something that simple? Oh well, I'm fanning now. How often should I fan? BTW thanks for the tip!

Yup, cut open the tops of the bags, and let some air inside, then close the bags with paper clips... you could also, spray a LITTLE bit of water inside.

They SHOULD pin soon after.
