Wire mesh or wire mesh alternatives.
    #4280635 - 06/10/05 03:51 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I'm having trouble finding exactly what I want in terms of wire mesh. What I've found so far is too weak and only sells in rolls. I don't want to pay 5+ dollars for a huge roll that I'm never going to use. All I want is a stiff and flat sheet of mesh that I would need to bend with plyers (to give you an idea of the strength). So far I've turned up nothing, maybe you guys have some ideas?

I'm open to alternatives such as plastic mesh (if it exists) and preferably easy to find alternatives.

Thanks in advance,
CA

I just bought a roll, I still have it, and can probably find a use eventually, but I had no luck finding any small pieces. Maybe a chem supply store sells small pieces of mesh? I dunno though.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you're going to have to spend more than $5.00 for a roll of anything wire. Go to Home Depot and pick up some 1/4" hardware cloth. It's very rigid and costs about $7-8 for a 4'X 5' roll.

1/4 " hardware cloth.

Check. Thanks augustin.
I've kinda always had the same question but ended up finding ways around the problem.

AFOAF had the same problem, but looking around the garage found an old Boombox. He pried the speaker grills off and used them. He also had an old round grilling mesh that you put on top of the real grill in your pit for grilling vegetables and such that came in handy to just place over a box fan for initial drying...
