does the humidifier work be heating up water then forcing it out? if so the metals... will be left behind in the process

even if it did, the lack of such metals would probably produce no notable effect.
decent idea though, why not do it? that stuff is cheap.

What you are talking about is deisgned to remove chlorine and chloramine..
and you should use distilled water anyway..
