OK well i just got back from albertsons grocery store and i bought some 1/2 pint jars the had 2 different kinds of 1/2 pints...i have seen cakes from the jars i just bought here in the shroomery ..they are the 1/2 pints that are shorter verses the more elongated ones i have used the longer ones before with good success so i decided to try the shorter ones but i will probably get the others also later down the road and see which gets better fruits...now my question is which one do you guys think would gets more fruits.. it seems to me that the longer has more surface area therefore more places for mushies to grow but the advantage to the shorter i would think faster colonization due to less distance the mycelium to travel to take over ... so if you have tried either please give me your input .......... THANKS!

Actually, the taller ones colonize faster in my experience. The insides of the short fat ones are farther from the glass so even though the mycelia doesnt have to travel as much distance on the outside, it has to travel more on the inside, usually a few extra days for the short fat ones versus the tall skinny ones.

I have and do use both. I haven't really noticed a difference in colonization time although I didn't really track it that well. I do find the shorter ones are easier to birth in my opinion anyway..

Results will vary and for everyperson that says the short ones work best, theres someone who will say the tall ones do. I've never heard any real differences between them. The taller ones would probably give you slightly bigger shrooms and the shorter ones slightly more.
The jar type is the least of your concern and will make very very negligable differences that you wont even be able to notice because of dozens and dozens of other factors that weigh alot more heavily.
And I'd suggest casing all of them, but thats just me. (maybe all but 1 or 2 anyway to get some prints and just have some cakes if you really want...)
