oh ok.
i dunno about coldshocking... I?ve heard alot for and alot against it... Mostly i?ve heard that if you have patience you?ll have the same results as cold-shocking it.
on a side note.. I also heard on some post a while ago that cubes should never have to be cold shocked. Can anyone address this?

I Have An EQ Lump.. i say lump because It?s not really a casing.. It?s just 3 cakes crumbled directly onto the perilite in the terrarium and covered like a baseball mound with coco fiber. I It has been 4 days and it?s about 1/2 completely covered with mycelium. I started to introduce light on day 3.. Which is probably when you should have. It definitely looks like you are going to have some harsh overlay If you just now gave light... usually by day 8 after starting a casing I always have small mushrooms or at least pins.

Overlay sucks dude, i can tell you that. If no pins are seen, consider on making a deep scratch on the overlay and cold shock on refrigerator for 8-12 hours, altough cold shock is not really needed with cubes it will help ease your mind.
Pinning=High humidity+lots of fresh air+light.

day 10-mycelium still growing, thicker in some spots than others, i cant see any pinning yet even though i have started light on a timer, 30 minutes of light and 15 minutes of none on and off.

don?t expect pinning immediately.. depending on what strain your growin you could be waiting at least 10 days for pins.. by then the overlay will be very prominent.

Dude calm down...go back to the basics, your casing is just a water delivery device. Right now the best thing for those is just plain old simple water. Overlay is what happens when the top gets all matted and your water delivery device fails, you get pooling, and eventually bacteria. Just scratching through the mat to allow water penetration will resolve that. (make sure you sterilize your scratching instrument)
If I were you I?d put a little bit more casing over the thicker parts (a little less than 1/4") and give it a good soakdown with a spray bottle, and wait 3 days.

I would consider your light...
make it so it more closely simulates a day.
mine go 8-10 hours on.
I havn?t had pinning on my cakes for 10 days... but i do have mycelium reaching up into the air... I?m hoping it?ll pin soon. I?ve heard it could take as long as 3 weeks.

on your cakes??? when i had cakes they pinned like the day after i exosed them to light.

when you scratch, i am of the understanding that you have to put a thin layer of coir on top, cover it all up, and let it colonize again.

I was going to say this a couple of weeks ago, but held off, cos I didn?t want to quench your enthusiasm....but Matias Romero, along with PF, do very poorly when cased, in my experience.
