how well does this beer thing actually work?

would one small bucket take care of the whole garden?

seems like a cheap and easy way to get rid of them if it does work as you may not need to redo it when it rains..

has anyone had much experience with it?

yeah i tried the beer deal around my garden years ago and it didn't work too well with slugs. alot of flying insects succumbed to it though.
de has been the best bet for slugs and creepy crawlies. even though you have to reapply after rains it is still the best bet for your money.
workman nice stuff, love the purple coloring. is this something that will be available in the near future?
good luck
peace

Attempting to pull the thread back on course away from slug control.

They seem to match the published description so far. All of the slug eaten stumps are sprouting several new mushrooms. The middle and far right images are of the same area as the very first picture in the top post. The large mushroom is the original slug damage specimen that is still growing and now sprouting new mushrooms at its base. The light crumbly material in the left photo is slug bait.

I think the purple is a photo artifact and the gills are not really that color. Depending on the success of this cultivation attempt, spores may be available in the near future.

I'd love to acquire P. argentipes myself. The P. venenata are coming along and are also becoming more abundant. The belly button like depression in the top of the cap is mentioned as a species specific trait in "Psilocybe Mushrooms of the World" by Paul Stamets. The last image looks suprisingly like baeocystis with the irregular folds on the cap margin. I also noted some fly damage (eggs and larvae tunnels) on the caps that might be distorting the shape.

Local weather conditions are staying favorable for mushroom growth. The largest one seems about ready for a print attempt. Many new small ones are also visible.

I picked the large one and was unable to get a print. Perhaps I waited too long.

That's really cool. Once I get out of this dreaded Alaska, I'd like to start little projects like that outside, I think it's really cool how wood-lovers grow in the wild. There is only one strain up here that grows naturally and it's some sort of cyan, i forget though. It's a whopper of a mushroom though, I saw a picture once and it was huge.
