    #4275488 - 06/09/05 10:49 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

hey guys...
about 3-4 days ago i i finally made some cakes.
Thai(2x)
a Goldent Teacher
and
a Star Gazer...
but my question is, after 3-4 days of waiting(i know it normal not to see any growth yet)i've noticed or what appears to be some of the brfand verm missing from my jars...Meaning...when i was finished inocculating the jars they were 2/3 full now it looks as tho they're only 10-15% less than 2/3 full...
just thought i'd see if any one knew whats going on...
and yes, this is my first attempt at growing...
thanx

could be drying out and shrinking, or just settling. the first one would be bad.

pc some water and put a little (2TBS) in each jar in as sterile of a way as you can figure depending on how you set up your jars. if you used the 4 holes in the top covered by foil, i would say pc a jar of water with one hole in the lid and use a needle to transfer the water. make sure that the cakes are not just settling though.

if they seem moist then i would go with that feeling. honestly, a couple of days seems to be kinda quick for things to dry up, especially if the myc. hasn't formed yet.

DONT DO THIS!

No offense iateshaggy, but this isn't a good idea.

All jars I've ever seen used have shrunk 10-15% as the substrate compacts and settles.

i had that prob w/ my last batch cuz i used br instead of brf. and after i added just a bit of water just like that the cakes sucked if up and made some great srooms. but i concur, his are too young to be dehydrated. mine were nearly a month old before i had that problem.
