Mutations
    #4274977 - 06/09/05 07:56 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Having more and more trouble with mutations and stunted or slow growth in my mushrooms. Thinking it might be from taking a sporeprint, using it and then taking a sporeprint from those mushrooms about 3 or 4 times. Any opinions? i will attempt to get some pics up.

you haven't been spraying lysol all over while you are working have you?
what is your tek? some more info would greatly help define your problem.

I usually inoculate in open air, i spray "oust" and lysol on everything, i have been having trouble regardless of whether i use LC or spores. I am using the PF tek, i have a small terarium, which stays at about 83% humidity and 65-70 degrees constant. Any other info that would help?

Thanks.

One of the best options in such a situation would be to isolate the most rhizomorphic mycelium on agar. Either from a cloning, or from spores etc.

don't use the lysol. Oust is ok, but lysol will caus mutants. Also, the Oust only needs to be sprayed around in the air. Use alcohol or bleach to wipe down your work surfaces and tools etc.

So taking spores from the best mushrooms and propogating them and then doing it again is fine??

It's helpful to switch substrates after a few generations.

On a second note, i was wondering if too high a concentration of h2o2 can cause mutations also?
