various liquid culture media

I'm thinking to do some trials of different LC's. why? well, i personally find it interesting, and i think it might be of benefit with a side by side comparison of various types of media.
also, with my current situation/space this is about as ambitious a project as can be done.
my plan is to use around 45 small glass jars (250ml). using three jars for each media. this will allow me to compare 15 types of media.
they will all be nocced at the same time, with the same amount of the same monoculture from another LC. and resulting growth recorded (with pictures) on a regular basis.
Now, it will be at least a month and a half before i can really start this. but untill then i would appreciate any kind of input and suggestions. especially i would like suggestions on what type of media you think should be included (your favourites, or crazy/creative ideas). and also of course on method.

I think they should all have the same sugar solution, calculated correctly, i.e. honey is not 100% sugar, I don't think karo is either. Identical jars, heat, filters etc.
I would like to see simple stuff readily available rather than fancy expensive or inaccessible stuff like peptone, bee pollen, vanilla or elephant dung!
Definitely coffee, apple juice. Maybe non sugar teas with added glucose/dextrose, like manure or straw tea. Or water vegetables were boiled in.

i could even do it several times, using different strains or speices. that should make clear what solutons suit what type better.

well, at first i was thinking to filter, dry and weigh the stuff... but then... i just relaxed. the idea is to see if/what media gives quicker growth. and if the difference is just a few 0.x grams... its completely irrelevant. so ill just go with visual inspection. and pictures. if i cant see a difference in growth speed. it doesnt matter.
another factor that originally interested me was to see if different types of media tended to trigger different types of mycelia development. however, this will obviously be easier to see on an agar plate and will have to wait for a later experiment.

I have a bag of dry, powdered apple tea which when mixed with hot water dissolves completely. Bought in a small village on the south coast of Turkey - the guy says he makes it himself, and unlike the 'commercially' available brands they have everywhere in Turkey that are mainly sugar, he says his homemade stuff is 90% apples. I think this is going to be promising.....

I've been really meaning to try semen.
I suppose I'll eat a lot of fruit sugars and other things and hopefully my semen will have enough nutes.

i was thinking about trying out some vanilla the other day, got the same old crown karo again though.
id really like to see someone do a test with lots of different mediums, try and see what goes quickest, or strongest, or thickest, or whatever. cool idea man, i think alot of folks could learn from a nicely setup large-scale exp.
cheers

Vanilla extract = pure foolishness.
Here is a cookbook of various standardized media types. Just omit the agar for liquid media. See the attached file. I would be quite interested to see the results if you have the time to test some of these wacky recipes.
