Raunchy Smell

I recently filled my pressure cooker with 5 1/2 ping jars. I filled the jars with the substrate according to the MMGG. I put the jars in the PC and covered the lids with tin foil. After about 25 mins i stoped the PC and let it cool overnight. When i woke up, opened the PC the most raunchy smell came over my kitchen. I have since thrown out the conents of the hars but what I want to know is how to prevent this from happening again and what caused it.

Also, one other question, while inoculating the substrate do you want the beveled edge of the syringe to press against the glass or the substrate.

my recommendation is to use a ramsey seal, and put the syringe against the glass.........at least that's what i do......

you want the syringe up against the glass as far past the layer of dry verm as you can go (if your using a dry verm layer that is, which is reccomended) so the innoculant slides down the glass into substrate.
As for the smell, need more info...
you said you covered jars with foil you also had the lids on the jars right?..lol
Sounds like something went bad, was the pressure cooker cleaned before use? You use BRF/Verm?
