weddings are out of control...
    #4273983 - 06/08/05 10:22 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

so my friend is getting married (she's 20... eh... i feel it's way too early but whatever). im a brides maid and uhm we were talking. her wedding is gonna cost an arm and a leg. seriously. and what sucks even more is now a days... the bridesmaids have to pay for their own dress which could run a few hundred!!

seriously i'd skip the fancy wedding shinanigans and just put the cash towards a house!!

why does there need to be a big production? i always hear from the brides that they were so busy during their wedding that they didnt even get to enjoy it that much!!

is it really that important to throw down a few thousand to make vows?

hehe - well ya that's fun. but uhm... why pay a shitload of cash for food that usually takes like POO. and why pay a shitload of $$ for cake that no one eats cause they are all suddenly "on a diet". and plus.. the only good part about weddings that have been expensive as a guest is the open bar.

I'm getting married next summer, so I've been introduced into this crazy world of wedding planning. It's only crazy, stressful and puts you into debt if you let other people tell you what to do.

Bridesmaid dresses don't HAVE to cost a few hundred dollars, it's really the brides personal discretion. As bridesmaids, you guys should have a say about style and cost. If you have one of those crazy brides who freaks out over the color of the napkins you should get out while you still can.

My weddings going to be a fun party with free booze! Hopefully.

If I ever get married, that would be my party to the last point. I'd probably just set up my house and yard so as to be right for the occassion, use some of the money I saved to buy booze for all the guests, and soon nobody will even care that it didn't cost me 20 grand.

Of course, that's why I'm probably not getting married ever.

The maid-of-honor is in charge of planning the bachelorette party. You should help her out tho. Your job is to assist the maid with her party planning and keeping the bride sane and stuff.

Ask the bride if she registered. Then you can spend $30 on a smoothie maker or something that she wants. You don't have to get her diamonds or anything like that.

Weddings are fun.

I have to agree with you 100% Delyrium.

My daughter and her bf decided (!!!6 weeks ago!!!) they were going to get married on July 2!!! Thats not much time (2 months) to plan a nice wedding. :shake:

She has already spent $300+ on a dress she will wear 1 time.  :mad2:  Not to mention the cake, tux's, food.......

I could just spit nails every time I think about it.

Is she happy?

Sometimes you just gotta sit back and enjoy the ride. Love is a funny thing.

Do you know why she's in such a rush to get married?

Maybe it's the same reason Shakespeare was in a rush to get married with the woman who he would later grow to dislike.

hehe... scary scary.

marriage is exciting and it's something i want. but at the same time very scary in my eyes. not bc i am afraid of commitment because... honestly i love my bf and can see a very bright future. BUT... divorce really bothers me and i dont want to ever go through that. i think that's what makes me fear marriage. divorce.

She appears to be happy.
They have been dating for 3 years. She graduated last year, moved in with him about 4-5 months ago. He was with his parents too. They bought a trailer and put it in the trailer park I'm in.

I knew they were talking about getting married, just not so soon.

20 is really young to get married.  If she's really sure about it and she's being 100% honest with herself, then it's really nobodies business.  Some people will learn thier lessons the hard way when their not honest with themselves.

Maybe they will live happily ever after.

I'm curious about the rush too.
I hope she isn't pregnant.

ya i mean they are GREAT people. i love both dearly. he is such a wonderful guy. she's an awesome girl who finally is being treated well.

i just think.. ya 20... i am afraid it's maybe that she is just doing it because he's the first guy that came into her life that treats her like a human being. and so maybe she fell hard for that, real hard. i just think like... eh... well i just want her happiness first.

I was really hoping they would live together for at least a year before they tied the knot.
She's 19 and he's 20. That is WAY too young to get married IMO.
I waited till I was 25 before I did it.

The bridesmaids have it easy, they at least get to buy the dress... not like they'll ever wear it again though. This summer my best friend is getting married (he's 21, whats with all this young people getting married?) and as a groomsmen I have to spend 250 to rent a Tux, plus 50-60 on a wedding gift and however much on the stag and then booze at the wedding.. this is going to cost me four to five hundred! I feel like I should at least be promised first pick of the bridesmaids!
