Disappearing (drying?) myc on casing--1st-timer question
    #4271541 - 06/08/05 11:50 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

When I placed the bread pan of PR colonized h poo cased with 40/60 coco/vermiculite in the fruiting chamber two days ago, there were fluffy balls of myc peeking through here and there. They seemed to increase in size and number slightly the following day. But, those fluffy areas seem to have retreated or shriveled. The temp. in the fruiting chamber has been 74-76 F, and rh has been steady around 94%. I've opened the lid, fanned and misted the chamber perhaps 8-10 times/day. The casing feels moist to the touch.

Is this normal? Or is something going wrong? If something's wrong, is it too few mistings? Too many? Or what? HELP!

Sounds normal to me. Once the vegetative (fruiting) stage starts, growth and colonization of the casing layer halts. That's probably what you're seeing. Primordia should follow soon, then pins. Keep it plenty moist.
