Took my own Adivice
    #4270110 - 06/07/05 11:10 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Looked in my PmP.

More like, moved shit around...EW lol....Looks like a fish tank that's be neglected lol.

Here's What I Did...

Filled that fucker with Hot-ass soapy water. Sloshed it around. Dumped it out.

Took out all the Damn rocks. Layed them out evenly on a killer baking type pan. (took 3 runs =/ )

Baked at 350F for 30 mintues. Then baked at 500F for 15 mintues. I'm pretty sure everything died. *Puts on Goggles* lol

For the Plastic Tub. Filled with hot soapy(anti-bacterial soap!) water. Sloshed it around and used a brand new sponge - Right out of the pack. Old/used sponges harber a bunch of shit, better to just use a new one.

The tubing I just made sure all of it was submerged in water and then rinsed it out well....It got that nasty water in it when I threw the tubing in there after I disconnected it from the pump ...whoops lol

Anyways, It looks brand new. I think I'll defiently clean it out more often. Probably after every 2-3 grow cycles...When I say grow cycles I mean flush lol...

So yea, Looks like it worked out real well...But damn...My hands ache, Lava rocks can put a hurting on ya....That's a Fuck-load-0-rocks :smirk:

did some reading and found that algae growth is condusive to high phosphate and nitrate levels in water. therefore recommendations of at least a 15% water change weekly will help to control algae growth. also the use of DI (deionized) water will help out as well. as our tap water has phosphates and nitrates present in it.
hope this helps

thinking about it, if you were to say do that much water changing, why couldn't you install a spout on the bottom of the tub to drain some water and then just add in more. easy change.

fix the spout where you could easily attach a water line to it.

Put the water line running out the window to drain the water outside.

Done, no carrying any water around.

I was thinking about that....but...I REALLY don't want to, to many spiders...dohwqirjmuhadfbmkbmaeth....gross...

Might get a water pump...Make a hose that runs from the PmP, to the bathroom....Somewhere in between i'll have some type of pump (grativy wont move it far enough or all of it)...

Then when i'm done i'll just put the hose up!...lol

Hot soapy water, followed by hot bleach water. IF you don't like the bleach smell, do it outside. Then rinse with vinegar (neutralizes the bleach) and bring inside.

Oh yea, Damnit *Snaps fingers*

Forgot about the vinegar.

And the funny part is....Half was baked at 350F for 30 mintues...Then 500F for like, 10 mintues...

The rest is sitting in hot ass soapy water :smirk:

Need some damn bleach

Thankx!

you guys really don't have to use so much bleach it becomes hard to breath. it only takes about 1/4 cup to 1 gallon of water to desanitize and that's a pretty strong solution. anything stronger is rediculously strong to the point of waste. and use cool water, let it sit for 10 or so minutes.

when was the last time you cleaned your pmp out?

do you do it inbetween grows?

or do you wait til the fricken thing stinks so bad it could walk on its own?
lolzz

---

the pmp is basically just like a hydra-pod.

I clean my hydra-pod out after every grow cycle.

I clean the rocks out in a bleachy water...for 24 hours.

then rinse them several times in fresh water to get as much of the bleach out as possible.

a glass of bleach will make the water an extremely hostile environment for any life form, and it's not going to smell at all!
i use a little bleach in water AND i change water between grows, never had algae or animals swimming in

Hey Gnostic,

You could use one of those aquarium suction pump drainers that screw onto your faucets and uses gravity (I guess) from the sinks flowing water to create a suction and pull the water out that way. Then just close the bottom of the suction device and it will make water from the sink faucet flow back into the PmP without having to use buckets or carry anything at all. Then I guess you could add any anti-contam agent that you would want to directly into the PmP H2O. The only thing that you would need would be the suction device (available at any pet shop) and some garden hose just long enough to reach from the PmP to a sink faucet.

Good Luck!!

Oh yeah, they also use these things to drain and fill waterbeds...

Alright...

I need plastic tubing (vinyl?)...It has to be able to fit something like that igloo plug...And then a water pump that CAN pump water from the PmP into the tube and out into the bathroom...And the pump has to be able to work when air enters the tube...Well not "work"...just not break lol.

It seems rather simple, just need to find all the parts.

I'm sure that I could Super glue or use 2-part epoxy to keep the hose on the little igloo drain...OR, I coud get a hose that's a little to small and wedge it on....that way I can take it off after i'm done.

Sounds like a fun lazy man's way of doing things.

Gonna be fun.

When I find all the pieces...IF i find all the pieces...I'll take pics anf post

Gnost, as you said to me once..."sounds so complicated!" Did you look at that waterbed filler drainer?! All you do is hook it up to your sink, screw the garden hose to it and put the other end in your pod. It'll create suction when you turn your faucet on and suck the water right out of your pod. When you've removed what you want, just close the bottom of the filler/drainer and it acts just like a spigot outside and will put water from the sink back into your pod.

Just don't do what I did as a kid one time when I was cleaning my aquarium...I got distracted watching TV and was kinda playing with the end of the hose and letting it suck onto my cheek. I left it too long and got a perfectly round "hickie" (deep blue) for school the next day!! THAT took some explaining!
