If a mushroom breaks blue on the stem where it was picked does that for sure mean it contains psyclocibin ? do any toxins stain blue?

Poisonous boltetes bruise blue. This has been covered many times. UTFSE :smile:

Yeah, but come on, man.... Gills vs. Sponge.

Be careful though, certain Agrocybes (sp.) and a few other bruise black, They're not deadly, per se... but they may cause bad gastrointestinal discomfort.. Do not be mis-taken with a very dark blue bruise from an old psilocybin-containing mushroom, with that of a fresh bruise of the aforementioned species.

Well to name a few gilled genera that have species with blue coloration/bruising - off of the top of my head: Lactarius, Entoloma, Stropharia, Mycena, Cortinarius species. There are more, you have to create a list features to use for identification. One particular thing is not enough.

i've found gilled boletes which bruise blue...
