fond some mushrooms need help identafying
    #4264281 - 06/06/05 03:33 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I found these mushrooms in one of my friends back yard. they were in an woody area w/ alot of dead pine needles and rotting wood next to them. they have a brown top and it is a little rough looking w/ indents in the cap. the gills are white and the stem is white and same with all the way down to the end. i took a spore print and it was a dark red almost like a maroonish color. I have pics but need to find the jack to hook the cam. up to the comp. but if there is any info on what I have said so far it would help. thanks Peteb

By indent do you mean the cap was wrinkled?

No, they were just like instead of the cap being flat it had like lines in it. best description that i can give is like if you run your finger through some sand and there is the imprint of where you put your finger through it. indented in the cap

They're probably Pluteus, close to Pluteus cervinus. There are a number of pink spored mushrooms, most of them are dangerous to eat. A few are edible and there is even one active species that would bruise conspicuously blue.

Happy mushrooming!

alright thanks alot for the info. guess it is back to hunting for me. one more question, what kind of places are best to find "magical" mushrooms? ex: near dead trees, open fields, woods??

I almost forgot... I work at a gardning center and there is composted cow manure and also dehydrated cow manure, would there be any possibilities of mushrooms growing on any of them?
