Would it be good for the community to invite LEO's here?
    #4268462 - 06/07/05 04:54 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Okay that subject may seem a bit nuts but just hear my idea and realize I'm just presenting a idea and haven't done anything. But I've been reading through various marijuana sites such as overgrow.com and such and I've been reading through various threads on those sites where LEO's field questions from their respective communities about questions on laws, searches, police procedure, etc. I was wondering if it would be a good experience for the shroomery community to invite some of those LEO's from those sites to this site in order to field shroom specific questions? Perhaps we could also get a lawyer or two to field questions as well?

This may seem a little nuts and now thinking about it, I'm 50/50 but I'm just throwing it out there.

I don't think mushrooms, especially home-grown mushrooms, are anywhere near as high profile as marijuana. I bet it would be hard to find a SOL that knows the field to any pertinent degree.

That guy's posts were so good I've saved them on text documents, and put copies on drives that aren't active in case something happens to the ones I'm using.

Seriously, if anyone wants to be pointed to his posts in security and safety, ask me, I think I have it as a favorite too.

The advice about registered mail when driving...excellent.

I'd like the LEOs that are PRESENT on this site to step forward to enter open dialogue.

We know you're out there.. You know we know.. Let's get some public dialogue going when you're *not* on duty.

I for one would like to know how we shroomerites are gazed upon by your department. Are we viewed as a harm reduction site to you or just druggies dancing on the border of legality and crime?

Walk into an internet cafe and write a PM to the Shroomery management

Ditto. Unfortunately, most of our members have only met the police from the 'being in trouble' side and don't appreciate how important the police can be from the 'I need help' side. I can understand why a cop wouldn't want to make himself known with such a large percentage of police haters among us.

If there are any police among us that would like to talk with our online community while remaining anonymous, let me know via PM. (I would be willing to let a LEO create a puppet to protect their regular user identity for this purpose...)

It wasn't JUST "OTD kiddies" there were many people against him being here.

Not only that, but he came here because of a complaint of a member (who was a friend of his) was being harassed.

It was very questionable as to the authenticity of the user in question... at least in my mind. Some of the other admins had closer contact with the fellow than I did and may know more about him. Personally, to me it sounded like somebody playing at being involved in law enforcement... there were too many mistakes in some of his claims that a real cop wouldn't have made. (Not knowing how some laws are enforced, incorrectly stating the duties of some departments within law enforcement, etc...)

That may be why.

And cops are people too. Some of them used to do drugs before they became cops, and some probably oppose prohibition just like LEAP.

Given the fact that the War on Drugs incarcerates people for years on end for posession of pills and powders, while tying up police manpower from being able to effectively go after violent/sex offenders (the traditional police tasks) I can see why many lawmen would oppose the present WoD situation.

If you join law enforcement to Protect and to Serve but end up sending kids that should do exams to prison for 5 years for posession of 1/20.000 grams of a rye fungus derivative that does little but make you feel odd for twelve hours, you likely end up getting very frustrated.

"To protect and to serve" truly is a motivation for many policemen etc to take up the underpaid & dangerous job.
I for one have gained lots of insight and new respect for good policing after becoming a moderator here.

The War on Drugs often is contrary to the underlying ideology of law enforcement. We see that, and you can bet many LEOs see that better than we because they get an inside view of the WoD as part of their job.

But a LEO need not be on "our side" to speak out at all. As long as a form of respectful dialogue is the goal, we can mutually explore eachothers points of view without the one having to reach for the cuffs and the other having to throw his herb in a ditch

C'mon, we know you're out there.
Perhaps exploring "our side" is what brought you to the Shroomery offduty? Contact the management or make the leap by yourself, with or without an approved second identity.

i remember those posts. good information!

i wouldn't think that you could get LEO to come out and in the open on this site, although i also didn't think about those who might be against prohibition...

I think it would be beneficial also but I think it would be a hard push.
Some people have issues and don't know how to keep quite.

Whether he was a cop or not wasn't really the issue, the flames happened based of the assumption that he was and would happen again for the next.
