b. Characteristics of the gills- brown to black, kinda crowded, not attached
c. Measurements of stem- 1-2 inches cap- 1-1 1/2 inches
d. Characteristics of the stem white, solid, thin
e. Characteristics of the cap Brown/gold turning white from the sun
f. Spore print color Jet black
g. Color that the mushroom bruises- No bruising yet
h. Scent of mushroom - Mushroomy?

Is there any manure or grass areas near this mulch? How deep/thick is the mulch?
I would pull them up and see if the stem is actually coming out of a solid piece of wood or if it's growing from the soil below.

The pics do resemble a panaeolus species but only the cap surfaces are visible. There are other wood decomposing species that can look the same from above and drop black spores.

Well im guessing you could say that it is composting mulch. This bed has been here for 12 years wgetting remulched 2-3 tiems a year.

My key leads to either Panaeolus or Psathyrella.
Unless you can check to make sure that it was really growing from the wood itself and not the soil, or see if the spores fade in concentrated sulfuric acid (would probably require microscope) then I can't really be sure.

Well its hard to explain. It is very composted wood which still has some wood chunks in it but mostley has the consistancy of very rich dar soil.
