CRACKED WHEAT KERNALS.

I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIMENTING WITH CRACKED WHEAT KERNALS BECASUE I COULDNT FIND ANY BRF. I LET THEM SOAK UP SOME WATER, ADDED SOME SUCROSE FROM MY LAB, ADDED VERMICULITE IN ABOUT A 50/50 RATIO, THEN ADDED MORE WATER, AND PREPARED TWO 1/2 PINT JARS. WE WILL SEE HOW THEY COLONIZE...ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS TYPE OF SUBSTITUTE? :syringe: I AM REALLY JUST OUT TO EXPERIMENT WITH A NEW SUBSTRATE BEFORE I COLONIZE TOMORROW WITH BRF....

Did you PC? If not, I think it will contaminate due to the sucrose.

I have been wrong before though........

Hey thanks for the concern. Yea. I actually autoclaved in our bio lab up at school for 45 min. at 270 degrees F and 15 p.s.i. Hopefully the substrate will work. Its really an experiment. The main thing I was worried about is the wheat kernals would expand and inhibit mycelial mobility throughout the substrate. But WHO KNOWS!!! THANKS for the input though it was a good question.
