Bush Supporting "Democracy (TM)" in South America
    #4265516 - 06/06/05 08:43 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/americas/06/06/oas/index.html

how about this part:

"The Bush administration has accused Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez of using his country's democratic institutions to impose authoritarian rule."

HAHAHA!

and this:

"Representatives of the 34-nation OAS are in Florida for a three-day summit with the theme of "Delivering the Benefits of Democracy." It is the first time since 1974 that the annual meeting has taken place on U.S. soil."

You know, some one gets paid a LOT of money to carefully word things like "Delivering the Benefits of Democracy", or the "Made in USA" stamps on stage props during speeches, etc. I bet they recruit people from the best corperate marketing firms in the world.

I'm not your typical hippy bush-basher, I'm just pointing out the obvious...

Interesting. I've been hearing that a lot from other Republicans too. Even my step-dad didn't like him, and he's a lifelong confirmed Republican....

My mom was a life long Republican until G.W. Bush, then she switched to the Libertarian party. She said that what Bush has done reminds her of what Hitler and Stalin did to other countries when she was a teenager.

Chavez is the best new development in this hemisphere. It's funny that Bush makes indictments agains him for being undemocratic, when he was democratically elected and then Re-elected after a failed US supported coup.
and not sham elections where the owner of the voting machine company pledged to do anything to get him re-elected either (nudge nudge.

I don't really know about that Chavez. I guess he's a good thing you are far left but...I'm not really a fan.

well he seems to be slightly modeling himself after Castro.. and Castro *can* claim a better infant mortality rate in his country than in the US.. and that's in the face of a decades-long embargo.

Hugo Chavez called Bush a pendejo last year, so he's the man in my book.

In all seriousness. The US government doesn't like him because A.) He is friends with Fidel Castro and B.) He'd like to instill a successful non-dictorial social democracy. But they'll be calling him a brutal communist and a threat to our security if the CIA can't successfully assassinate him.

The man sure has my respect, if only for that....

The most insane development is that Bush called him a threat to the hemisphere because he bought 100,000 assault rifles; while the US has over 10k nukes. hah! what nerve. Do only our "free-market" allies have the right to have militaries?

I wonder what bush would say if you asked him what the benefits of democracy are and how one should go about delivering them if you asked him out of the blue and he had no script or anything to read from....
