fruiting / pins formation
    #4264664 - 06/06/05 07:33 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I have been using the PF tek and had great luck with B+. However now Im on Golden Teachers and they colonized quick. I just cant get them to start pining. They have been in 80 degree room. Their still in the jars and I even put them in the fridge for a day to try and get them started. I had this same problem with a PF strain. After 3 months I gave up. Any suggestions?

You need to provide a lot more information for a good response.

Why are you fruiting from jars?

Is there enough air exchange?

Is light being introduced? How long?

Why are the temps so high?

How are you providing humidity?

Answer some of these and I think someone can help you.

Well I was told to wait till they start to pin before I remove them from the jars.
I was also told keeping the jars around 80 was best.
As far as humidity, I can still see moister in the jar walls.
Air exchange is little cause their sealed in jars.
This is how I did the B+ and it worked great.
I keep my terrarium humid using the perlite method.
But from what you have said so far I will assume Im doing some of it wrong.

why dont you just try birthing your cakes at 100% colonization instead of when they start to pin, dunk them, roll them, and put em on lids ontop of the perlite..

A drop in CO2 levels and a rise in O2 trigger pinning. A 10 to 15 degree drop in temperature will also trigger pinning. and of course light.

Also id give them a cold shock, for me my GTs always needed that to start pinning. Do that before you dunk and roll.

You need to do some serious reading on this forum. Those jars need to be birthed. That means removed from the jars. You need your temps between 72-74 degrees and the introduction of 10-12 hours of light for optimal grow conditions. You also need fresh air exchange for pinning. How can you expect any sizable mushrooms growing out of the same jars you colonized in?

Read up on the forums. Do a search on birthing, pinning, and fruiting. I can't be much more help than that, as I don't fruit cakes.

I can't believe you actually waited for 3 months on that other grow. I would be kicking some serious ass if someone told me that load of information.

Okay all you cake growers out there, throw this man a bone!

Well the way I did it worked awesome for my b+. So I thought I would do the same with the others. I have since learned by what you are all saying, it wasn't the way to go with my other strains. Im new and still learning.
I have searched this site but obviously was looking in the wrong area. I appreciate people like Pcubmycol who gave me useful info without making me feel like a stupid pile of @#%$. I will continue to work on my tech and hopefully I can be as useful to some one else in the future. Thanx.

If you haven't pinned the cakes yet.. maybe you want to consider casing them. You will get much better yields that way.
Here are some pics to guide you.

But I think the 50/50+ casing is better. But other people like to use coir.. so your call.

Good luck and keep reading.

Thanx all. I have moved them so they get more indirect sunlight. I also moved them to a cooler part of the house. We will see. I will let you all know how I do.
Thanx again.
