Hunt Id help:)
    #4264604 - 06/06/05 07:16 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

Hello all.

From another recent lawn hunt here in the northern dc suburbs (maryland usa).

they appear to be all the same. are they?

Is this what is meant by blueing at the base. This blueing can not be seen very easily in certain light, and sometimes requires a particular tilt or angle. on some ones it is more like a shimmer.

I cant tell if the print are black or brown.. They look brown. If it is brow they are pan foes. If they are black they are pan subbs.

Sorry, I really don't know anything about delaware. I guess it depends on what they are. Something tell me you would likely find them on a nearby lawn though. Probably not to uncommon.

Now here are some pan subbs from a picture in Gumby's gallery, and they look very similar and with no noticable blueing other than the sort that I've asked about in this post. If you look at a few of the pics there is a sort of blueing.

Is there anymore info that I should include to help.
In a previous post mjshroomer stated "Pan subbs have thicker stems with whit fibrils ont he stems and verticla lines spiraling up the stipe of the mushroom". Is this truey a distinction that can be made?  Also I am still curious as to the blueing question I ask above.  Any help?

Thanks alot. So I'm guessing that the blueing that I asked about is not what I'm looking for. Damn those mysterious and enigmatic Panaeolina foenesecii!. So are they macroscopically identical with Panaeolus subbalteatus or, as Mushroom John has stated, can pan.subbs be distinquished by "erticle white grooves running up and down the stem". Have y'all found that to be a realiable characteristic? (obviously spore print color seems to be the most realiable distnquishing characteric, however in terms of hunting, it would be nice to have additional visual ones to narrow it down a bit, though I realize "nice" is neither here nor there in reality.

ps. I will be very happy when I get this through my thick skull and I don't have to bother all of you kind folks with these same damn questions over and over. I see that this pan. foe thing takes up a ridiculous amount of time and energy. Someone should compile a full and comprehensive "Panaeolina foenesecii for dummies" fully illustrated and conclusive, so everyone could just point to there and move on. ( i know that the past posts sort of act as this, however there seems often to be contridictary information and sometimes leads to more questions than answers) I don't know. Just a thought.
peace

You should go back and get those Stropharias you found in your other thread before they get older.
