Casing after cakes fruit?
    #4264439 - 06/06/05 06:22 PM (12 years, 24 days ago)

First flush on my cakes, and after casing, cakes

So here is the question (and yes I searched for the answer...I try not to bug folks unless I have to):

Can I still case my cakes now that they have had their first flush?  Thanks in advance.

You can, but id say there are more reasons to let them stay as cakes then there are to case them. Id definately dunk before casing to replenish moisture. Be paranoid about sterility. When a cake is cased at birth it is less vulnerable to contamination. Some of the nutrients are also gone so expect a smaller yield than normal.

You can, but your yield will definitely suffer. Once cakes, or anything, have gone through the vegetative stage, breaking the mycelium network down (crumbling), only to have it recover again, won't do it any good.
