BIG CASING PROBLEM!!! Need some input
    #4262885 - 06/06/05 10:56 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

i have a casing in a 66qt tub and the mycelium has grown so compact that the sides pulled away and there are about 500 pins on the sides, all the way around. currently they are being pressed against the side of the tub, between the substrate and the tub. i was thinking of using the pancake method from the site we all love to hate Earthstongue.com to correct the problem. if ANYONE has ANYTHING at all to say about this let me know. much appreciated ~TheNewGuy05

if the pins are all coming from the sides and nothing on the surface, something is wrong with the casing layer.
sounds too dry, but hopefully not contaminated.
wait til the shrooms are ready to harvest, then flip it over and recase.
or you could deepscratch and recase.
some people dunk their casings between flushes.
GL W/that.

OH no, the surface layer has more pins on it than the side. i'm very excited about this flush seeing how many pins are starting.the problem is that the garbage bag came off the side for just a split second and now it has pins on the side. i figured i would just slide it out of the 66qt tub and into a biger one so the pins on the side don't die.

I think you should not mess with it.. just wait until after harvest time. Just watch out that the ones along the walls don't have too much water dripping on them. Maybe take a clean cloth and try to get the big drops that are heading for them... If they stay wet too long they can rot.

Sounds like your problem isn't big.. just your yields

Good luck

Dont touch it. The casing container will help hold in the moisture around, if you pop it out of the container the casing will probably dry out quicker, reducing the flush. The side pins will grow up the way they are..
