Dunk or cold shock?
    #4261726 - 06/05/05 09:43 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

My cakes have completly stopped fruiting. I did not dunk after birthing. They did start to fruit right away but stopped. They do look like they need water and are a little shrunken. What should I do?

If any primordia form-ed..scrape it off. Carefully.

Dunk in water for 12-24 hours...

Tap is ok if it's not hard water, spring water works well.

Primordia in water will grow. From my experience, which isn't much, existing primordia after being dunked fruit as normal if not damaged in the process. I dunked a rye cake for 36hrs pins on, things were fine. Maybe just luck.

It doesn't rot right off the bat. But if it's in it's late stages and has mushroom tissue, :thumbdown:

Best to just say scrape it off, lol, to avoid a thread intitled "They Said Dunk,Now it's Rotten" er some shit. But either way :shrug:

:thumbup:

aren't the primordia just the little acumulations of myc, though?? not pins that have developed tissue?? are we talking scrape pins or primordia?? now I'm confused.

Hey IGnosticAbhorI ,

I did what you said and checked the site but cannot find a definate picture of the primordia. The cake is totaly covered wit mycelium, there were small patches of puffy mycelium growing, but no larger than a pen tip. But they were flat and paperlike, like they grew when inside the jar. Did not look anything different than the mycelium though.

Primordia = Knots.

Anything less is nothing to worry about.

I'll look for some pics

See the little dots. Primordia. EDIT: The circled thing is a pin. The white bumps are primordia.

This is a closeup.. the bumps of white are primorida.. the ones with dark heads(caps) are pins.

Does that help?

I've had small pins survive a 24 hr dunk many times, as far as the dunk or shock do both it's easy enough.
