Help, casing, quick?
    #4261784 - 06/05/05 10:01 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

My friend was starting casing and he did it totally wrong. Well he add in the bottom layer of verm and middle layer of colonized rye but there is no top layer of casing mix:shocked:. It seems like all the mycelium has colonized a flat top layer and its already beginning to knot. I was wondering if I could go ahead and give it a top layer of casing mix. Or is it too late since its already knotting? Anyone?

I am relatively new to growing but, what I have found is that mycelium can take some shit. Throw some at it. Experiment. Take a chance. See how vulnerable a casing or cake really is. All the shit about contams and worry is over hyped if you have common sense. Could probably throw a casing layer on pins and they would just force themselves up through the stuff. Damn things are pretty hearty. I would add a thin layer of verm/coir just to hold moisture and support pins, then after flush, fully case. Just ideas, no guru here.

Casing's w/o casing layers are basically cakes...

Myc. fresh...like that...Very contam. resistant.

Casing layers are uncolonized, thats why they usually help contams out.

Contams. are overly "hyped"...But i got lazy once...lots 16/18 jars...:smirk:

Good luck man
