Sterilization

I am planning on inoculating at least 36 half pint jars and it seems like it would take a long time to sterilize them in a pressure cooker. I have a new dishwasher and it has a wash cycle called sanitize. Can i just put all the jars in a put them through that?

Well, I'm not saying its recomended, but I always just wash my jars in the dishwasher before I add my substrate. I have also handwashed with no problems.

no you must use a pressure cooker or boiling water for at least an hour. Also it sounds like your new to this 36 jars may be a bit much why not try 12 for your first shot.

My friend only pressure cooks for 1/2 an hour and he has no problems with contamination. If no pressure cooker then definately steam sterlise for one hour.
It does take a "long time" but if you want the little fun guys you either do it or buy/find 'em.
Also(no offense dracon) go for 36. New or not. If you don't take shortcuts and pay CLOSE attention to your sterilization techniques you shouldn't really have any major probs.
