Field mushies 12hrs to maturity vs. 7days in a terrarium
    #4259716 - 06/05/05 01:49 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

So living in Florida I have seen first hand cubes growing to full maturity in as little as half a day. Why do they grow so fast in the wild and why does it take us so long to produce them ourselves? Could it have something to do with the constant changing of variables in nature? Making the fungi produce faster to make sure they continue to thrive? Is there anyway to make a mushroom go from pin to maturity in 12 hours in your home?

The answer would be air exchange. In nature the mushrooms have constant air exchange and do not suffer from excessive CO2 buildup.

The humidity in Florida also aids in the rapid growth. It would be very difficult to duplicate these conditions, unless you have a high tech setup like on a mushroom farm. You could duplicate the conditions for thousands of dollars, but it just isn't practical for home growing.

it's called Mother Nature!~
she makes the ideal conditions outdoors.
:smirk:

I usually have fruits from pins in 2 to 4 days...indoors.

Roadkill... What method do you use for air exchange?

I have used many different methods over the years.

It really depends on what kind of fruiting chamber you have.

coolmist's...with my greenhouses. <--which I use now.

ultra sonic...I have never used one...but have friends that use them and they have great results.

bubbler system...with my old setups...they worked great.

rubbermaids with holes filled with polifil...and fan by hand a few times a day.

started out with a large Sterilite container...with perlite...and fanned by hand when I first started.

they all work good...you just have to tweak them to get them to work right.

good luck!~
