Better to pasteurize or sterilize casings?

Hey guys. I know this random kid with a whole bunch of nice jars of rye and popcorn (i know popcorn doesn't fruit well, and is better as spawn I tried to tell him) and he is ready to case. Should he sterilize or pasteurize the casing layer? He has taken a brake for a while, he always used to microwave sterilize as in the 60/40 Tek but it didn't work out too well for him. What do you guys think he should do?

If you had problems before then just go ahead and PC it. It can't hurt and it only takes like 45 minutes.

It probably didn't work too well for the kid because air exchange was very low, or the contamination originated from the substrate, thus contams had a much better chance of showing up.
6-10 minutes in a large, microwave safe container and stirring halfway through is the best way to sterilize casing mixes, and it's all I do.

Me 3..... autoclave bag in microwave. Nuke 4 times 2.5 minutes each, flip bag each interval & let it rest a minute or 3, once done..... rubber band closed & allow to cool to room temps.

tell "random kid" to clean the microwave w/ bleach. fallow the instructions in the 60/40 tek carefully, and (he or she) should have no problems. and, yes any cereal grain works mush better as spawn once (he or she) has had a taste of it, there is no going back from poo.

Lol. Thanks guys, my random friend will try out some sterilizing. I think the reason he had so many contam problems earlier was related to air exchange, he was using a perlite set up and fanning, this time he is using a coolmist and ultrasonic humidifier in a more modern style terrarium. He'll let me know how his casing goes. Thx for your info.
