spawn to poo question
    #4256053 - 06/04/05 03:35 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

does anyone know if you can used grain jars that arnt completely colonized to spawn to poo?
i had some temp fluxs that slowed down my jars for a while, they are a bit stalled/slowed at 75% or more ...but they seem to be drying out, and if possible id like to go ahead and spawn em to poo..what do yall think?

thanks

namaste,
captmueller

Never tried before.. but if you want an educated guess I would say yes it would work. Of course it would be better to wait.. more inoculation points.. and less exposed surface for contams.. But you will be incubting the poo.. so it should fine. But I have not tried that before. Take it for what it is worth.

Good luck

If u get some grain that is not colonized mixed in with the poop ur likely to get contaimnation on the other hand if u use only colonized grain u will be fine.

About 50/50 chance it will work. Uncolonized grains are magnets for contam's. I would spawn at a 50/50 rate, to improve chances.

Just cut out uncolonized parts instead of risking contamination....

It's worked absolutely fine for me before when my popcorn stalled.

Stalled grain is often a sign of contamination. Be sure to smell your spawn real carefully before you mix it in.

If there is any color growing- other than white myc, it is contaminated. If there is a goo like sludge, it is wet spot bacteria.

Other than that:

If there is no visible color sign, or hint of bacterial contamination, stalled grain/wbs jars are most often caused by lack of moisture and/or gas exchange. But, most often - lack of moisture.

i would agree completely with them being to dry...i had dry and uneven heat incubating em for a while....the new and working tit has been up for a week....these jars have been growing slow (major temp fluxes) for a month...

namaste,

captmueller

there doesnt seem to be any comtaimed...just slow growth (for example, i was using a heating pad, which didnt work all that well..then a ceramic heater heating the closet it was in...it got quite dry in there which i think helped the jars to dry out fast)
