I don't know how many people here have children , I have a 14 year old son . He is staying with me for the next few weeks ,I don't think he is doing drugs.
I know alot of his friends are , both , his mother & I use. Does it seem inevitable that he will?

I don't want him to , he is doing so good.
My father started me on drugs. Why should I repeat his mistake?

I would tell him to stay away from the hard drugs if he does decide to use. Give him the real information not the DARE class information. He will decide to do it or not with or without your help so just give him the facts.

He's most likely already smoking pot if his friends and parents do.

Yeah, he's probably already smoked the ganja at least once anyway. Just ask him about it and see what he says.
Chances are he won't admit it even if he did and it'll be uncomfortable, but it depends on your relationship with him.

I agree. Just tell him the truth; that there's nothing wrong with havin' a joint every once in a while, just like there's nothing wrong with have a drink every once in a while. But when it becomes a daily (or even weekly) thing, and the only thing that him and his friends have to talk about is getting fucked up, THEN it's a problem.
just be honest with him and tell him about your own use. What you've learned, what you'd change if you could do it again...
If he doesn't already use, then encourage him to keep it that way. And if he already uses, sparkin' one up with him would be a great way to bond! LOL!

Ya I smoked my first time when I was 13 back in 2001. If the friends he is around use then he may be using. And ya talking to him may be akward for both him and you but I think it would be best in the long run. Tell him your experiences and they will greatly effect his decisions, if he has any respect for you.

The Shroomery and it's affiliates strongly oppose what Shroomery member #130299, dr0mni has suggested. It is NOT cool to give kids drugs. In fact, don't even bring it up.

Urb: I understand your concerns. Don't listen to these kids that are telling you to "toke it up w/your kid". I have a 19 year old daughter who had friends that smoked pot and I smoke. I never smoked around her and always told her the truth about drugs.
To this day she doesn't use any drug habitually. She will have an occasional alcoholic drink (beer, wine-cooler).....not often maybe 2-3 times a year.
Being honest w/your kid is always the best bet.

me and most of my stoner friends started off by pinching out of our parent's stashes. i started when i was 12, started buying my own at 14, and smoked with my parents for the first time when i was around 17.
i wouldnt worry to much about him using rite now. how much money and access to drugs can a 14 year old really have? well i guess that depends on economic status and location actually... but most drugs and alcohol kids under 16 get, are usually stolen from family. there was recently a study on this, and i believe it to be true. i dont know about you when you were that age.....
but when i was 14, me and my friends were smoking our parents stash off of aluminum and watering down the liquor bottles.
oh, and i graduated DARE

Yeah the watering it down trick is classic. The only problem is when you keep going back for more and its keeps getting more and more diluted then your rents bust you. I can't relate to stealing stashes off of parents. Me and my friends always bought our own. I had a few that's parents smoked but even they bought their own from their peers. I only knew of one kid who pinched his dads bag as an adolescent. We didn't have much money but whatever we did went towards the herb. Just thinking about those days makes me nostalgic.

Be open, and honest with him about drugs. And most importantly thing make sure he understands that they should be treated with respect.

I absolutely agree! I think that being honest and answering their questions and speaking to them like young adults (not little children) will get you farther and gain more respect from them.
My parents were hippies, and they smoked around me until I was old enough to figure out what was going on. Then they put it away until I was way, way older (like 18 or 19). But now my dad only OCCASIONALLY smokes. My mom tried to give me all of the propaganda bullshit and scare me away from it. I don't really trust what she tells me now, even though I'm a grown woman. Don't do that to your kids.
But don't be all blatant about it and try to be your kid's best smoking buddy, either. You have to set boundaries and rules for your kids because after all, they are still underage and still under your supervision.
I did have a friend one time, who's mom was really liberal about smoking pot. He smokes a lot, but his little sister doesn't touch the stuff, so a lot of it depends on your kids and their individual personalities.
