Casing: Sterilization of first layer of vermic
    #4255116 - 06/04/05 06:28 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Quick question:

Im following casing 101 right now (http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23805) and it says in the procedures to put the substrate over a layer of vermic. Now it doesnt say whether this vermic should be sterilized or not. I know fully colonized substrate is really not nearly as prone to contamination as plain vermic, so if I just follow general sanitary technique without sterilization, will I be fine?

Yes you should be fine,
But if you wanted to you could just microwave it for 2-3 minutes in the microwave. Vermaculite is non-nutricious. You could also just give it a mist of light h202 before addin the substrate.

Good Luck bro.

No sense in sterilizing, dry verm cannot be contaminated.
