Lysol residue a threat to print quality?
    #4254458 - 06/04/05 01:37 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

If one were to use lysol as the disinfectant for the surface that theier spore print was going onto, would this harm the spores?  That is, will the residue kill off the spores you gather making them useful only for microscopy, and not even that if thier shape is warped by the chemicals? :syringe:

And there is where God lives, where the dead live, the spirits and the saints, a world where everything has already happened and everything is known. That world talks. It has a language of its own. I report what it says. The sacred mushroom takes me by the hand and brings me to the world where everything is known. It is they, the sacred mushrooms, that speak in a way I can understand. I ask them and they answer me. When I return from the trip that I have taken with them, I tell what they have told me and what they have shown me."

what type of surface
spores should go on paper, some say foil, glass slides. Paper and foil come out of the box pretty dam sterile. Glass slides can be wiped with alcohol. I am pretty sure alcohol leaves less residue then lysol

I used aluminum dishes to collect my prints. You know the metal holder for tea candles? That's what I'm using. I set the cap onto the rim of the litle dish and allow them to fall into the dish. This way the gills or cap doesn't actually touch the dish and contamination is less. Then I wrap the whole dish up in aluminum foil. I like this way because all I need to do to make a syringe is sterilize the needle, inject and suck the water back up out of the dish and voila. No scraping spores from the print because the print works a lot like shotglass method would. Anyway.... I ran out of alcohol, thus they lysol. It does seem to evaporate, so I was hoping it the surface wasn't moist that any residue wouldn't hurt the spores anyway.

use soap and water and a clean paper towel to dry it. Most things that come from a factory are pretty clean

Lysol will leave residue that may either kill the spores, or mutate them. Alcohol evaporates cleanly..I'd either use that or the soapy water.
