Gel vs Non-Gel type Hepa
    #4250373 - 06/02/05 09:50 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

What is the difference? Why would I want one over the other? Thanks!

are you talking about gel on the sealing edge of a hepa filter like you would use to build a flow hood? If so, the gel is a method of sealing the filter in place. Typically the frame holding the filter would have a "knife edge" which sticks into the gel and seals the airflow around the filter.

I've never used one, always gone the gasket route and have been plenty satisfied. I'd say unless you're buying a case that is specifically designed for gel edge filters that it would be easier to go with the gasket type (on the downstream side).

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Most hepa or ulpa filters designed for clean room applications have a factory gel sealing strip on one side. They just insure an airtight seal. If you happen to find/acquire one without the gel strip, just use a silicone caulking to create one.

Also, use the best quaility pre/filter you can afford, as they vastly prolong the life of the primary filter.
