a little outdoor success
    #4252844 - 06/03/05 06:12 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

i use to bury my contamined substrates here and there in the garden, this was buried less than one month ago in a regularly watered flowerpot. it was millet, contamined by bacteria. i'm not going to eat these, but i'm very surprised they came out in such a short time and in this season...

Maybe not those first mushrooms, but I'd probably eat them off of the 2nd and 3rd flush.  UV hopefully killed that evil bactillus!  :fire: :fire: :fire:

There have been a few threads about this recently and i believe everyone concluded that fruits grown from contamed substrate are 99.99% safe to eat...

Don't eat them! Dry them, and ship them to Portugal!

Diver once said "The only time I'd avoid contaminated shrooms is if the substrate was infected with black mold, but that's pretty rare. The rare part being: Harvesting shrooms from black mold infested substrate, not very likely. Everything else is safe in my experience, and others have reported the same thing."

So from what i have gained from various posts similar to this is, if the substrate produces fruits, they are ok to eat.

That being said, it's probably not worth the risk if you dont know what the contam was. Just trying to debunk the thought that contamed shrooms are automatically considered dangerous.

That actually makes a lot of sense...if the mycellium was attacked by a contam it would be killed off/ or unable to produce fruits, right?

Diuver told me personally that he and his friends have eaten Shrooms form Bacillus infected Subs, with no ill effects! That's why I made an outdoor grow of all my Bacillus infected BRF cakes!
