damp rid/calcium chloride
    #4252732 - 06/03/05 05:37 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

i just went out and bought some damp rid in anticipation that i will actually grow some shrooms from my pf cakes on my first grow attempt. 3 of the jars are looking great, just reached full colonization, the other one is too wet and probably will not make it. But anyways, i bought some stuff called damp rid and under contents it says "calcium chloride". I was expecting it to say desiccant. I'm pretty sure this will work but i don't want to fuck up some freshly picked shrooms so i thought i'd get some opinions from some more knowledgeable shroomers. Has any one ever used this product? Will calcium chloride harm my shrooms in any way or just dry them like they are supposed to be?

It wont harm shrooms, if they are touching the desicant it will make them taste bad you want to make a tray for them to sit on

Correct, but he was asking about calcium chloride, so the definition alone wouldn't help so much...

Or are you trying to say calcium chloride isn't a desiccant?

Sorry, your post is just confusing me

im saying that a desiccant is any drying agent.. not a chemical name. thus, his calcium chloride IS a desiccant.
from the way i read the post, he was asking "why isnt desiccant in the ingredients" not "is calcium chloride a desiccant"

Do not let it touch your mushrooms... it may give them a bad taste, but that would be the least of your worries as the mushroom would absorb the chemical. There are several step by step drying procedures here if you look around a bit and NONE of them involve letting the mushrooms touch the chemicals.

Kinda curious as to where you found the damp-rid... I have been looking around for some myself.
