 hoodia graft

Its been wet lately so one of my small hoodias had root rot. I cought it in time to save the upper half. So i performed an emergency surgery onto a san pedro.
Hope it takes. It was all done outside. and there isnt a humidity tent around it. Its been damp and cloudy out the past day or two. I gave it a poke and it seems as if they have united. Time will only tell what comes of this. Wish the baby luck.

Aww, hope your hoodia lives! Have you heard of anybody else grafting their hoodia on san pedro? I know some cacti (and succulents) can't be grafted onto certain others. I really want a hoodia gordonii

I dont know if it has been done. I got a couple older ones and a few seedlings. They are a very interesting plant. They could be inconpatible but only time will tell.

Nope they wont graft. Different type of cacti .
Though i did find some good info on the subject of rooting cuttings.
Old plants that are fifteen or more years old, tend to loose vigour and are best broken up into cuttings. You can also propagate desirable plants by removing growths from around the edges of a clump, but I often find it easier to knock the plant out of its pot to do this. In both cases, cuttings should be taken usually September-October, but I have even taken cuttings successfully in February. A cutting should consist of just one or two growths with no more than a couple of millimetres of stem below. No callusing, propagator or bottom heat is required, just plant in suitable compost (I use 2 parts J.I. no.2, 1 part 4mm grit, 1 part Perlite), put in the greenhouse with your other conos and water them. Rooting should take place within one or two months.

The graft will not work. There are plants you can graft hoodia onto. Take a look at the family hoodia is in. Not sure about the spelling but it's something like asceliapiad. There are other species in there and you can graft to them. As for rooting hoodias, I've never succeeded with it but it can be done. When I cut away a healthy part, it just shrivelled up or the rot appeared on the cut portion. Best bet is to root a pup after it gets big enough.

One other thing... do not leave your hoodias outside in the rain. Excess water will kill them. That is what the rot is from. Tiny seedlings can be watered more frequently but as they get bigger they need water less often.

hmm they are more related to milkweed then much else. So maybe i will look into that.

yes they are a milkweed, or atleast very closly related.
Does anyone have any info on germinating and/or grafting seedlings of hoodia??

not much info needed for germenating them. 5 of 8 seeds sprouted. scatered on a cactus mix then seeds were lightly covered and misted.
