when you cut a PF cake in half...

should the inside be nice and white like the outside? I cut one of my first cakes in half yesterday. It was very white on the outside, but the inside looked practically uncolonized. It was as if the cake was frosted in mycellium as it didnt even slightly go into the cake. I guess there was a bit of mycellium in there but it was a very very large contrast in color. is that normal?

i think i have found the reason for my slow colonization times.. cakes are waaaay too dense even though i lightly spooned the stuff in. knew the damn verm was too small.

this always is the case with newly colonized pf cake. Cut a cake in half after it has flushed 3 times and the center should be colonized. Or Overincubation of about 4 weeks will also colonize the center. You may be using too much water or your brf may not be ground up enough.

i didnt pack the BRF at all.. the issue was the verm was TOO FINE and it resulted in tightly compacted and dry cakes. I used 2 parts verm. 1 part BRF and 1 part water (all by volume)
