Vermiculite texture
    #4251446 - 06/03/05 08:27 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

My buddy bought some verm. yesterday but I noticed it was a fine texture. Will this still work? He said he went to 3 different places and they all sold the same kind. Has anyone had success using this stuff?

Really, most of what i've read recomends coarse verm. But what he hell, I'll tell him to try out and see what happens. Thanx for the input. Peace!

It depends on it's use. Use for mixing up PF cakes, a finer coarse is what I prefer. For casings, coarser works out a bit better IMO.

Fine verm works great. I can't speak for cakes, but it's definitely effective in casing.

Yeah, for PF cakes but he is going to spawn them to poo and case. So he should definetly try to track down the coarse stuff for the future. Thanx alot bro, certainly appreciated. Peace!

What's up Diver,
You think it's good for casings too? I think he is going to use a coir/verm/oyster case over poo. Still ok?

I sure do, got stuck with a bag of fine verm and it's all I've been using lately. Here's a fine verm / peat moss / eggshell bulk case:

IMO fine vermiculite holds moisture better than the coarser stuff. So in this case, the fine stuff is what ya want. The coir will give aeration while the fine coarsed vermiculite helps retain moisture. I thought you were talking about PF cakes for some reason. I think the coarser stuff works better for DE casing PF cakes. Nice work there Diver!
