Help with ID (New Zealand)
    #4251334 - 06/03/05 05:41 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I came across these on a short wooded path that leads to a lake outside of the hostel I was staying in near Te Anau on the South Island. They were growing out of straw that was on the side of the trail. They felt extremely slimey. The stems were white and the caps were gold in the middle and faded out to white. When I found them they had obvious bruising that was almost sky blue. Over time they beacame more of a deep purple. Here is a pic.......

Any help with an id would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Those are some fuckin crazy shrooms dude!!! I've seen a few similar ones around, I think they may be either a stropharia or a cortinarious. Probably not active. They look cool tho. More pics (eg. closeup of gills, one of the caps, etc. would help with ID. and spore print of course) would help with making an ID

I couldnt get a good spore print because I am on a study abroad trip right now with a bunch of people who definately wouldnt understand. The smell is hard to describe but they smell like the dried cubes that I have had beack home in georgia. Definately a bit of a musk like a damp cellar or something.

they look reminiscent of stropharia caerulea. some people put it in the psilcoybe genus, but its not psyhcoactive and not edible.

I've never seen them go that purple though, so i might be wrong.
