Coolest thing about shrooms!

Does anyone here agree with me that the coolest thing about shrooms (or mescaline) is that nobody can really say anything like, "well LSD isn't like what it was in the 60's". You experience the same thing that the ancients did ages ago, and the same as recent psychnaughtslike Leary, McKenna, and such. LSD maybe not be the same (although it is all opinion), but shrooms will forever be the same.

i think there's a possibility of two meanings when people say "LSD isn't what it used to be in the 60's".
first off, quality. this is pretty true that LSD isn't as high quality as it used to be and nor is it as available as it used to be but things are improving.
second would be the attitude towards the drug. hippies believed that they can get peace and love for $3 a hit. now-a-days, it's probably part of a different scene with different attitudes towards it.
that being said, shrooms AREN'T what they used to be IMO. shrooms were part of a culture, with rituals and an attitude that they were sacrements of divine nature. that certainly isn't the attitude today, at least to most people.

Plus the mushrooms themselves weren't exactly the same. Wasson's first experiments showed the the locals were using ps mexicana mushrooms. There were different species used I believe. However, I'm quite certain that cubensis wasn't one of them. In fact, the name that many people had for cubensis was actually something insulting, in a way I believe. (Translates to fake or phoney).
And of course, as many will tell you, differen't kinds of mushrooms will offer different experiences. Especially mexicana. And of course, like the person before me said, enormous cultural differences.

I'm with you most of the way on this one
We shroomers are having unique experiences every trip but utelizing the same natural substances every time... When our father or uncle, random friend or grandmother tells us they had an amazing experience with mushrooms, we can say that we have been through that same veil, pierced the same membrane.
It can be a growing closer.
It is good!

Even if the ancients used a different species of shroom, some did use the same. And either way, mushrooms and their effects were around long before people, and haven't changed since. As for LSD, I think it is the same as the 60's, just one "dose" then equals like 5 today.

I don't think it should really matter, both contain psilocybin. Psilocybin and psilocin are what make you trip, so yes, shroom tripping has been the same for thousands of years.

However, there are other chemicals in the mushroom that may influence the trip in subtle ways, correct? Psilocybin isn't the only chemical in the mushroom.

It really is the same as it ever was. Those other chemicals make such a slight difference, and no matter what kind of shroom it is you eat now, people have been eating the same kind for a logn time. maybe some from back then are more rare now, but overall everything is the same.

It was only one small group of people in one area useing the p. mexicana, while many cultures the world over have been using psychedelic mushrooms, all diferent variety's, for thousands of years.

You're right, it likely varies from region to region. However, many will agree that different species will offer different flavor trips, hehe. A lot could be placebo, but sometimes (especially mexicana truffles) it seems like the other alkaloids may have enough influence to notice a difference. Then again, maybe not. Oh well.

It's not so much the chemical composition, strength or potency but the way in which you interpret and internalise the experience.
To say the experience you are going to have will be the same as an Amazonian shaman who believes the things he sees are gods is a bit naieve.
