Systems.
    #4250885 - 06/03/05 02:00 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I've noticed that a number of people here restrict reality to a particular world-view system that they have created. Explaining everything in terms of mystical energy is a system; scientific analysis is a system.

My point: *EVERY* system has a flaw. Do not use systems. Or at least use them for what they are strong in- science is good as a tool to accurately quantify and simplify complex systems in reality ( not to explain freak occurances, spirituality or morality ). Explaining things in terms of mystical energies is great for understanding both yourself and how you relate to everything ( do not use this system to explain politics or to predict the future ).

Seriously, it's like trying to cross the river in your car when you use the wrong systems in the wrong circumstances ( above i gave two simple examples, there are many more ). Systems are nothing but clear interpretations of reality ( all of them ). None of that "But atoms really exist!!! Chi doesn't!!" -- that's irrelevant and you know it.

Can you please explain this a little better? You might have explained it well enough for most people, but I am having a difficult time understanding what you mean by "world-view system."

atoms exist, chi doesn't- from the point of view of atoms.
each perspective negates others to a degree.

expandingon, not negating your post

The context with which you view the world, the perspective one uses to intrepret incoming information from one's senses. The glasses one wears to see!

essentially, youre saying one must balance oneself. systems with spontaneity, reason with intuition. left with right blabla. this is true. one cannot attach oneself to one set of beliefs (systems) permanently nor balance oneself permanently.

Thank you, Crunchy.  But the only thing you achieved is that I feel more confused than I was before.  Actually, I wasn't confused before.  I just wanted clarification.  Now, I am confused.

Is there some scientific knowledge I need to have before I try to understand the initial post???

And thank you.

sorry frog i was responding to the initial post-i wasn't trying to clarify it.

examples of world-view systems maybe are science, hinduism, mysticism, solipsism, etc.  hopefully that helps, fellow traveller

I never make my bed nor do the dishes. I guess I fall under the slopism system.  :tongue2:

Yep...every statement and world view relies on a presupposition. It is impossible to be objective.

Is it just me, or is an unmade-bed more comfortable to sleep in..

I've never been able to decide if I actually feel that way, or if I'm just trying to justify my laziness.

Every time I try and delve into myself and figure something like that out, I wind up stopping short once I realize that no matter what the answer may be, it still won't convince me to make a bed I'll just be messing up again in a few hours

I wouldn't know; I never make my bed either. What's the point if you're just gonna mess it up again in a few hours?

I never shower for the same reason.

2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.
