Almost had to pull my gun on someone a few nights ago

I was going for a late night walk in Pittsburgh kind of near where the Heinz ketchup factory used to be. It was about midnight. I noticed that this car kept circling the area. All of a sudden that car came around and stopped in front of me. This guy jumped out. He had a big mag-light flashlight (the kind that the cops have and that can be used to beat you with). He started coming at me like he was going to hit me.
I started to back up and I started to reach for my gun (I have a concealed carry permit). He says in a very aggressive voice, "Who are you and what are you doing down here? Where were you coming from?" I said, "Who are you? You don't look like a cop. I'm coming from [my neighborhood] and I like to go for walks down here." He said that he was a security guy that drove around to make sure everything was ok down there. I cautiously handed my concealed carry permit to him to show him ID, but to also show him that I had a gun on me.
We started talking and he was telling me some weird shit. I guess there are a lot of break-ins down there. He said that in the past month he has detained 9 people who were trying to steal shit. He said he even took a guy down who was reaching in his pocket. He then goes and tells me his life story about how he got divorced years ago and how he is trying to start up a security company. He actually seemed like a cool guy.
But...damn...I almost blew his fucking head off.

Good job man.
The limpwristed will blast you for carrying a gun, but the responsiblity that falls on your shoulders is immense.
If anything happened to go down in your presence that required action to save someone elses life then you are obligated to protect people because you have chosen to be a gun carrying member of society. The people that I know who carry guns are VERY understanding of what their duty will be in certain situations and don't take that responsiblity lightly. The world needs more people willing to shed their own blood for the good of society.

Just kidding. I like guns and I thought it would be cool to be able to carry one. It also makes me feel a lot safer in the city.

Not in my state. You can just walk in and walk right back out with it in about 20 minutes. muhahahahahahaha!!!!
I am super pro-gun, but I think they should make you at least take a class in my state (much like you have to take a test for a driver's license).

I've seen some statistics that made me think twice about keeping a gun in the home...and they didn't come from granniesagainstgunlovers.com or anything either.

Hm...I might be interested in seeing some of these statistics (as long as they are from an unbiased source...I don't want to see stuff from the NRA nor from some rabid anti-gun organization). I have never had a bad occurrence with my gun. The fun and safe feeling I have received from my "gat" (yo yo) have made it a worthwhile purchase.

that sounds pretty scary living there, I would carry a gun too..I would hate to have to use it, I usually am against guns...but hey in big cities I would get a gun permit too...one of my friends had one when he was living in Washington state, he liked to go target practicing and hunting...

No pun intended here I just want to make a good point. You can carry a gun around all day long and feel like you're the man. When it comes down to somebody pulling a gun on you just trying to take your wallet what exactly are you going to do. If you pull your gun you better be prepared to use it because believe me they will.
Death isn't an easy thing... Death is final.. Some people underestimate this and feel like they are god with their guns. Would you really be able to pull the trigger that easy and dismiss another human life?
People get shot with their own guns all the time. It is because when push comes to shove they can't pull the trigger.

The only time I'd consider having a gun would be whenever I get my own home. And even then, it'd be something like a Remington pump shotgun.....

That is a great late night city story. There's nothing like hitting up the slums packing with a head for anything. Sounds kind of weird.. was this 'car' labeled as security.. if so, did you look suspicious? Don't wear jewels into the thieves den if you know what I mean. This guy could have meant business. It's sad you have to own a gun to ensure your security, but I myself do the same.

If you own a gun, you better be damn well ready to use it. Pray I will never have to make that choice, but when I do I'll be ready, and either he'll be fallen or we'll both be deadly. I only hope I can stop taking thrills and unnecessary risks to test who I am. Is it not enough to put away warish toys and live in peace. Will I not die ready when the war comes and I am unarmed. Die in this life, yes. So I'll never put my weapons down, and when the time comes you pull trigger, it'll be your frown!

I have a question for you Randal.
Lets say your walking down that same road one evening, and you see a young punk trying to take the purse of a woman?
What are you going to do?
Will you
A) shoot to kill B) wave your gun in the air to try to scare the attacker away?
If you choose option A, and end up killing this young punk.....guess what.... You will be going to jail, for murder.
If you choose option B, and he has a gun....guess what...... Your the dead guy.
IMO....carrying a gun around may make you feel bigger and safer, but I would bet, that in the long run, it's going to cause you more problems that it actually solves.
A better, safer way to protect yourself is to buy a tazer or a can of pepper spray.
Both of these are non-lethal means of protection, that will get someone's attention.(have you ever been hit with either a tazer or pepper spray?...it aint fun) They will keep any attacker away, and keep you out of any potential legal trouble later.
Carrying a loaded gun around is not safe.

The guy that stopped him was not a cop or a security guard....just a wanna be. If this wanna be had a gun, and he thought that Randal was a "young punk", and pulls his gun out to confront Randal....Randal thinks he is going to be robbed and he pulls his gun out....
I mean Randal already said he "Almost had to pull my gun on someone..."
Egg, how long do you think it will be before Randal actually does pull his gun on some innocent guy just trying to protect his hood?

Its only a matter of time beofre his fear gets the better of him and he either ends up killing someone (probably an innocent person) or getting killed himself. The only reason that any sane person would carry a gun is out of FEAR. I feel sorry for him, i really do, he is obviously trapped in a very fearful state of mind.

I used to carry a handgun in my car, but I stopped when I started to consider the scenarios you just mentioned.

I was skimming and i missed that, thanks for pointing it out.
And i don't think carrying a gun has much to do with fear. A lot of people, especially Americans have developed a boyscout mentality of wanting to be prepared for anything (i.e. soccer moms in hummers) and carrying a gun allows this mentality to be taken to another level. However there is nothing wrong with this, in fact most statistics evidence that it is for the best. For me, carrying a concealed gun is for protection and my love of guns.

not everyone carries a gun out of fear, once i get old enough to get my permit to carry a concealed weapon im getting it and thats just cause i love guns and id rather have one with me in case somethin did go bad and i would have to use it. i know theres not a big chance of that happening but better safe then sorry. as for fights, NEVER take ur gun out unless u really need to use it. example- someones charging at u with a knife and ur life feels threatened then maybe shoot him in the leg or arm and wait til cops get there to take him away. some of you are saying only scared people carry guns, well isnt everyone afraid to have harm done to them

Let me have a go at rewriting what you just said, to clarify the meaning a little.
And i don't think carrying a gun has much to do with fear. However there is nothing wrong with this, in fact most statistics evidence that it is for the best. For me, carrying a concealed gun becuase is fear for my safety and i love carrying my guns around becuase of the false sense of power and security they instill in me.
Does this sound a little more realsitic and closer to the truth of the matter?

This sentence stinks of fear mentality becuase you are living in fear of something bad happening.
i know theres not a big chance of that happening but better safe then sorry. as for fights, NEVER take ur gun out unless u really need to use it. example- someones charging at u with a knife and ur life feels threatened then maybe shoot him in the leg or arm and wait til cops get there to take him away. some of you are saying only scared people carry guns, well isnt everyone afraid to have harm done to them
This is basic fear mentality, if you go out of your house with that frame of mind, that just looking for trouble. That exactly how the government want you to think. They want you to be looking over your shoulders and constranlty worrying about the person walking behind you. That way they can get away with almost anything whilst your busy worrying about the guy next door. As i said before, if guns made people safe, america would be one of the safest countries in the world.

I loved that movie y. Remeber kids on one end of the chart you have fear and on the other you have love. Tiny Tim takes a gun and carries it around with him all day. Where do you think Tiny Tim would be on the Love------Fear chart

First of all, nice grammar. Secondly, i actually live and work in places of south florida that are not the nicest. However, even if i lived somewhere nicer i would still carry a gun. I would carry one to be prepared and because i love guns. Finally, why does FEAR always come to your mind when guns are mentioned to the point of apparent brainwashing.

Having a CCW permit doesn't mean you are obligated, legally, to stopping crime and being rambo. Even if I was carrying, which I rarely do, and some huge shit went down, I'd still prefer hiding behind a car till the pigs got there rather than starting a shootout, or participating in a shootout. Only if I was going to save someones life and I wouldn't be putting mine at a huge risk. Don't ever fuck around trying to be Mr Cool with guns man, thats just goddamned stupid. I'm a pretty good shot but I still don't want to get into a gunfight. A gun should be your last option to protect yourself. If some liberal limpwrist doesn't wanna carry a gun to protect himself, I'm not going to put my ass on the line to do so.

Heh, those are the ONLY two options? Either immediately shoot and kill the punk, or wave the gun around recklessly?

*aim gun at punk* "Hey you, don't move ori 'll shoot"
Now he'll either run, which is good, or he'll try to shoot you (and since you are behind him, gun drawn, and aimed) you'll probably get him.

Well said, Eric.
If more people carried guns, criminals would probably think twice about assaulting people. If you take guns AWAY from good upstanding citizens, then the only people who will have guns will be criminals.
I am a female, and I have a concealed weapons permit. Not because I have penis-envy or any other bullshit reason like that, but because I have the right to. If I educate myself about guns and gun safety, then that sets me apart from all the other dumbasses that carry guns for the wrong reasons. I am less likely to commit a crime or be involved in an "accidental" shooting because I am held to a higher standard of responsibility.
Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

People will die turned to ashes, and people will die smoking stashes, and people will die decapitated crashes, bones broken, skull split open, large dashes. A quick bullet, not for the fool to hit, bleeding slowly, make your last wish, your last breath and lie, your last wit. And when the smoke clears, you'll be burned, the man will pack his pistol and back turn, you'll be in the alley, wishin you were more stern. So pull your whip, let's sink ship and break lip, swiftly slip, into darkness drift, to endless shit.

One of our family friends accidentally shot himself in the shoulder. He still can't move his hand, and he has a constant pain still even after years since the incident (eight now?). He's become an alcoholic and his family is completely fucked up now.
Point here: Be careful. Even if you shoot yourself by accident, it's not just you that will suffer. I'd be willing to wager there's more gun accidents annually than there are armed assaults.

well that wasn't very fucking bright of him, now was it? are you blaming the gun on this? I'd say its his fault for pointing a gun at himself in the first place. Who does that???

Im too cheap to get a concieled weapons permit so I just carry this in plain sight
Good job on not being a shoot first and ask questions later kinda guy. Gun ownership is all about the self control/responcibility and knowing how to use the firearm. Kinda ticks me off when anti-gun people think there'd be no robberies/murders if guns were banned. Look at the UK with their strict gun laws. They are seriously even trying to get a ban on long sharp kitchen knives because stabbings are quite popular. Bottom line, people find ways to kill other people.

Naw, I'm not blaming the gun hahaha. He dropped the thing. I'm merely saying be careful. Either way, whether it's murder or accident, it's your fault (Unless your gun was made by firestone tire co.) and accidents happen. I'm just saying understand that shit happens and it can very well mess up other people's lives.

I almost had to use my gun yesterday. I thought I saw some homeless people but it turns out they were just a gathering of junkies catching dope nods on a park bench.
