HQ's was powdery, but she got hers from a brewery supply store, not the garden section at ACE. worked fine as a powder, though some kinda setlled to the bottom of the jar and made a pasty ring (which, may have been good since thats where she always gets the wetspot starting).

What us gypsum used for? I actually have some, cause I brew my own beer.

you use it in shakable quart jars to make the grains not clump together as much. whats it used for in brewing?

they have a lot of neato stuff at the brewshop- gypsum, yeast, dextrose, glass flasks, graduated cylinders, scales, thermometers, all kind of grains (but more expensive than buying at a health food store), additives for agar (like potassiums and such... havent tried but theyre there), and some carry lab stuff since i guess they yeast culture \(so, innoculation loops and the like as well, but not at mine). brewing seems cool, but i dont like beer... :(

In brewing, gypsum is used to adjust the pH downward. I'm not a pro at this so I don't really know why you need to decrease the pH.
