little white fuzzballs...maybe rhizos UPDATED: First Pins!!
    #4249054 - 06/02/05 06:21 PM (12 years, 24 days ago)

I'm a first time grower so I just have one question...my casings have little white fuzzballs growing on top, they are pretty small like the size of fuzzballs on a sweater that came out of the dryer, and they are pure white...I'm pretty sure its not  cobweb because i have seen cobweb pictures and it's not at all like that.

My thought is that they are rhizo's or something like that but i haven't seen any pictures of rhizo's so i have no idea...thanks for any help

UPDATE:
Looks like grow was right...this morning I got my very first pins on my casing, pictures soon to come, thanks to everyone here on the forum for help!    :smirk:

Fuzz balls are very common when using cakes, you're safe.

Whoops, thanks for catching that grow. They show up in casings too, but generally look more like thick offshoots than fuzzballs. Either way, what you describe is definitely not cobweb.

Ok, so this casing has been in the fruiting chamber about a week, are these a sign of pins to come soon, or do they have no significance?

Your pins should be coming, very, very soon... I guess your little white fuzzballs is primordia. Check it tomorrow and it will probably look like a :mushroom2:

Not sure if this will help you because you are using casings and not cakes.

But I have a picture of a cake that I'm growing, starting to colonize with something that maybe what you are refering too.

Look at the jar on the way left on the top.

Just trying to help
