She gave me Le Parfait... (PICS)

My girlie very kindly bought me two of these Le Parfait ("the perfect") jars on a day trip to France.





As far as I can tell from the literature that came with them they are for preserves.

They hold 1063 ml/1.869 pints so, they are pretty much a quart each. As you can see they have a metal harness on them to secure the lid. There is also a removable rubber seal on the lid too.

I have a number of questions relating to these jars:

1) How long do I pressure cook them for if they are to contain whole rye grains and a touch of vermiculite?

2) Do I lock the lids with the harness during pressure cooking or just close them?

3) Do I remove the rubber seal or not during pressure cooking?

4) For inoculation I will have to open the lid (in my poor mans glovebox), but I was wondering what the best method for this would be. Can I use mycelium from an existing rye _flour_ cake by just dropping part of a broken up cake into the jars? Also, could I inoculate from a spore syringe as with the cakes?

Whole rye grains is best preecoked as in the 9er tek(Shroomery/Grow section)

No, don?t lock them, the jars would most likely explode!

3) Do I remove the rubber seal or not during pressure cooking?
I?m not sure id the rubber can withstand 120?C. I wouldn?t use the rubber.

Yes.

Also, could I inoculate from a spore syringe as with the

Yes.

I?m not sure how to go about these jars, they are not best suited for mushroom cultivation purposes.

Put foil over the mouth, and pc them with the lids open, then you can innoculate through the foil and close the lids, which should help cut down any contam possibilities.
